Zero-days-to-expiration (0DTE) options are options contracts that expire on the same day they are traded. This means traders have only a few hours to act before the contract becomes worthless. These options have gained popularity due to their high-risk, high-reward nature, allowing traders to capitalize on short-term market movements. I begin each trading day with a 0DTE, usually in $SPY. Gain swings of -60% to +60% are common.
0DTE Features
- Short Lifespan: They expire at the end of the trading day.
- High Volatility: Prices can swing dramatically in a short period.
- Premium Decay: The value of the option erodes quickly as expiration approaches.
- Speculative Trading: Often used for quick profits rather than long-term investing.
Why Traders Utilize 0DTE
- Quick Profits: If the underlying asset moves in the desired direction, traders can make significant gains.
- Limited Overnight Risk: Since positions close the same day, traders avoid price changes that occur after market hours.
- Lower Cost: These options tend to have lower premiums compared to longer-term contracts.
However, 0DTE options are extremely risky, as they can expire worthless if the market doesn’t move favorably. They require precise timing and a strong understanding of market trends and especially the specific security being traded..
Utilizing 1-minute, 3-minute, and 5-minute charts must be utilized to quickly enter and exit 0DTE trades. Be sure to paper trade this trading strategy, and all strategies, first!
0DTE Trade Selection
I usually select contracts, ATM (at the money) less 1 or 2 strikes for calls, and ATM plus 1 or 2 strikes, for puts. I only take option trades that have at least 1k OI (Open Interest).
For 0DTE, you want high gamma, because gamma is what gives you explosive P/L when price moves now, not later.
Always remember, only invest what you are willing to lose. Good luck!
Holiday Sessions
When trading 0DTE, lean toward mean‑reversion early and trend continuation later, as holiday sessions often start choppy before settling into a directional drift. Keep size small, protect capital, and let the market show whether any rally resumes or stalls at the highs.
Like you’ve never seen before— not a replay, not a rerun, not a recycled chart. Today, and every day, you will find the moment where the market bends, where resilience sharpens into opportunity, where persistence turns into profit. It’s the wolf stepping out of the shadows, eyes locked, stride steady, reminding you that today’s edge is not yesterday’s echo. Trade it like you’ve never seen before— because you haven’t.
